Roles and Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.).

Perform OS upgrades, patching, and kernel updates.

Manage file systems, partitions, LVM, RAID, and disk quotas.

Monitor system health, CPU/memory usage, and storage capacity.

Implement and manage firewalls (iptables/nftables).

Apply hardening practices (e.g., CIS benchmarks).

Manage SELinux/AppArmor configurations.

Handle user authentication (LDAP, PAM, SSH key management).

Ensure compliance with company security policies and audits.

Configure and monitor backup solutions (rsync, Bacula, Veeam, etc.).

Write and maintain shell scripts (bash), Python, or Ansible playbooks.

Automate repetitive system admin tasks (cron jobs, log rotation, etc.).

Configure network interfaces, DNS, NFS, DHCP, VPN, and routing.

Troubleshoot connectivity issues.

Monitor network traffic using tools like tcpdump, Wireshark, or netstat.

Host and maintain services like Apache, NGINX, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Tomcat, etc.

Troubleshoot service crashes and application-level issues.

Collaborate with development and DevOps teams.

Set up system monitoring (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, etc.).

Configure centralized logging (rsyslog, Logstash, Graylog, etc.).

Analyze logs and proactively resolve issues.

Manage virtual machines using KVM, VMware, or VirtualBox.

Deploy and maintain Linux systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

 

 

Optional:

CI/CD pipeline integration (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).

Manage Git repositories.

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Use tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef for configuration management.

Work with container technologies (Docker, Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes).

Candidate Profile:

A highly skilled and detail-oriented Linux System Engineer with 2+ years of experience in managing and maintaining Linux-based infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. Proficient in system administration, automation, performance tuning, and security hardening. Adept at supporting mission-critical systems and ensuring high availability, scalability, and compliance.

Linux distributions: RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian

Scripting: Bash, Python, Shell

Server Management: Apache, NGINX, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Tomcat

Networking: DNS, DHCP, VPN, iptables/nftables, TCP/IP stack

Monitoring: Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana

Virtualization: KVM, VMware, VirtualBox

Backup & Recovery: rsync, Veeam, Bacula, cron jobs

Logging: rsyslog, Logrotate, ELK/EFK Stack

Cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP (EC2, S3, IAM, etc.)

Containers: Docker, Podman, basic Kubernetes

Version Control: Git, GitLab, GitHub

Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Capable of working in fast-paced, 24x7 production environments
