Once the gpupdate is executed, we would see the LAPS software on the client machine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-15.png\" alt=\"force command\" width=\"565\" height=\"176\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 15:<\/strong> The next step is to update the AD schema on the server. The following script needs to be executed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Import-module AdmPwd.ps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Update-AdmPwsADSchema<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-16.png\" alt=\"Update-AdmPwsADSchema\" width=\"628\" height=\"189\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Set-AdmPwdComputerselfpermission \u2013OrgUnit LAPS<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 This command provides permission to the client machine which is in LAPS OU<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-632\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-17.png\" alt=\"OrgUnit LAPS\" width=\"628\" height=\"95\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-AdmPwdReadPasswordPermission \u2013OrgUnit LAPS \u2013AllowedPrincipals LAPuser1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This command is to provide read permission for LAP user which is in LAPS OU<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-AdmPwdWritePasswordPermission \u2013OrgUnit LAPS \u2013AllowedPrincipals LAPuser1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This command is to provide write permission to reset the password for the local admin account of domain joined computers<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-18.png\" alt=\"AllowedPrincipals LAPuser1\" width=\"627\" height=\"67\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Find-AdmPwdExtendedRights \u2013identity \u201cLAPS\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This command allows you to find users having extended rights<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-634\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-19.png\" alt=\"identity \u201cLAPS\u201d\" width=\"628\" height=\"74\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 16:<\/strong> Group Policy \u2013 Create a new GPO as shown in the below figure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-20.png\" alt=\"Create a new GPO\" width=\"628\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 17:<\/strong> Edit the Group Policy<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-637\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-21.png\" alt=\"Edit the Group Policy\" width=\"432\" height=\"484\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 18:<\/strong> Open the Group Policy Management Editor -&gt; Policies -&gt; Administrative Templates -&gt; LAPS<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-22.png\" alt=\"Policy Management Editor\" width=\"625\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 19:<\/strong> Enable local admin password management -&gt; Click the enabled option and Save<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-639\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-23.png\" alt=\"Enable local admin password management\" width=\"623\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 20:<\/strong> Enable the password setting and set the password length and password age.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-24.png\" alt=\"set the password\" width=\"628\" height=\"581\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 21:<\/strong> Update the GPO policy by running the below command on PowerShell<\/p>\n<p>Gpupdate \/ force<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-25.png\" alt=\"Update the GPO policy \" width=\"366\" height=\"110\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 22:<\/strong> Change the local admin password by running the PowerShell<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get-AdmPwspassword \u2013computername Client1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The below figure shows the specific computer\u2019s local admin password.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-642\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-26.png\" alt=\"local admin password\" width=\"628\" height=\"69\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can also use <strong>LAPS UI which is available in this path C:\\Program Files\\LAPS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-643\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-27.png\" alt=\"LAPS UI \" width=\"628\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 23:<\/strong> Double click the application and the below screen will allow you to see the password<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velaninfo.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Untitled-28.png\" alt=\"see the password\" width=\"383\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 24:<\/strong> Click on Search button and the application will show local admin password.
